An adoption is a huge deal for your family. It is also a big change for the child you bring into your home. Make her feel welcome with a scrapbook dedicated just to her.

Scrapbooks are very popular these days. Parents scrapbook for their children all the time, and these books become treasured items down the road. If you have brought an adopted child into your life, then you may want to consider making a scrapbook for her. Whether you have adopted an infant or an older child, show her how much she means to you by making a scrapbook.

Many people scrapbook, and it is one of the most popular hobbies. You can fill scrapbooks with pictures, mementos, notes, and stories. The scrapbook tells stories about our lives. When you scrapbook for an adopted child, you can organize it however you choose, but it should be about the child, and how they came into your life. Scrapbook their life story for them to remember for all times.

Collecting Memories From the Very Beginning

When you get ready to start your child’s scrapbook, begin with an idea. You already know that you want to tell the story of your child. You can start the scrapbook that tells the story about you and your spouse, how you met, when you married, and when you decided that adoption was right for you. Collect pictures and stories that will bring this story to life in pictures and catchy captions.

As you scrapbook, you will probably think of other things that you wish to add to the book. You can add their own birth story, if you know it, and how the child came to live with you. Add photos of you and your spouse meeting the child for the first time, the journey home, and stories and pictures about the first few days in the new home.

Adoption: Knowing the Birth Mother

If you have adopted your child under an open adoption plan right in your local area, you may choose to make a scrapbook for the birth mother. This should be done with careful consideration. If the birth mother wishes to know more about the child after the adoption is complete, this is a good way to keep her informed. Birth mothers will feel relieved to know that their child has been placed in a loving and caring home.

Adoption AbroadIf your adopted child is coming from another country, you may want to include some things that will later let your child know about the country she came from. You can use a scrapbook to tell about the location of her birth, as well as facts about her native country. Your adopted child may never remember that she was brought to you from somewhere far away, and she might appreciate learning about her native country as she grows older.

The one thing to remember when making a scrapbook for your adopted child is that it does not have to be fancy or too complicated. You can make a small scrapbook or a large one. You can add lots of stickers or embellishments, or make it more like a photo album with notations and stories. You can even make a digital scrapbook using software.

There are many possibilities when making a scrapbook and there are no "rights" and "wrongs." The main goal is to make a scrapbook that will help you and your adopted child remember how special she is in your life.
